We all know of or have probably heard of SnapChat right?
If you haven’t, it’s another instant messaging app for mobile devices, using pictures instead of words.
… In same cases, it uses boobs, or penises instead of words.
If you’re a Gen Y or a so called Millenial, then the chances are that you love Snapchat. Or do you?
For Snapchat, our younger generations are the future audience of Snapchat in my opinion.
But have Snapchat become the victim of it’s own design?
And are Snapchat in trouble?
With the introduction of Instagram Stories recently, it seems like a direct rip off of Snapchat Stories.
For Snapchat, Stories was the rocket fuel behind their growth rate in 2013.
Stories was a innovative way of telling stories using picture slide shows.
And now Instagram are doing the same feature and using the same title!
There are so many great influences out there today and many are now leveraging video.
YouTube are still out in front in video based media, but Facebook are making leaps and bounds in this direction.
Many influencers on LinkedIn are also using video to promote their message.
… People do in fact use LinkedIn. I know, I’m as in shock as you are about that.
Back in the Snapchat camp, the best you can expect are the daily does of dick pics and Gary V banging the Snapchat drum.
So are Snapchat on the verge of a slow and painful death?
Maybe not. Snapchat’s audience is the Millenials, the young kids, that’s their future audience.
The Millenials aren’t entirely bored with Facebook but aren’t yet civilised enough to use Instagram. So for now, SnapChat should remain their home.
… Unless MySpace happens to make a triumphant return? Yer, nah.
They probably won’t be using Twitter because its hard for them to have deep & meaningful conversations.
So in saying that.
I don’t see Snapchat dying from this at all. I see Snapchat pivoting from this into new directions. It has to right? But into what?
If they can some how wrangle the ‘friend’ video conference space, that no one has really ever serviced very well (sorry Google Hangouts), then they could be on a winner here.
… Sorry to Blab too. I can’t believe people still use blab. And what ever happened to periscope?
Any how,

Paul.
